  • Over the last three seasons, Ja'Marr Chase is fifth in the league among qualifying receivers in fantasy points per target.
  • On 137 routes over the last three years with Chase on the field but Tyler Boyd off the field, Tee Higgins has averaged at target on 21.9% of his routes with 2.58 yards per route run.
  • Over the last three seasons, Joe Mixon was easily first in goal-to-go carries among running backs with 74, leaving a lot of scoring opportunities available for whoever wins the backfield competition.

2023 Bengals Stats (NFL Rank):

  • Points: 366 (16th)
  • Total Offense: 5,422 (22nd)
  • Plays: 1,048 (24th)
  • Yards Per Play: 5.2 (14th)
  • Offensive TDs: 39 (11th)
  • Points Per Drive: 1.87 (14th)
  • Situation Neutral Pace: 29.4 (28th)

2024 Bengals Coaching Staff:

  • Head Coach: Zac Taylor
  • Offensive Coordinator: Dan Pitcher

With Joe Burrow at far less than 100%, the Bengals adjusted their offensive system significantly over the first month of the 2023 season.

Looking forward, removing those games as well as the ones Burrow missed at the end of the year from the overall numbers is important to get a good view of what to expect in 2024.

From Week 5 to Week 11, when Burrow was lost for the season, the Bengals still did not push the ball down the field a ton, but their 6.9 air yards per target over that range was much higher than the season average.

During that run, they were seventh in points per drive, 13th in yards per play, and a massive 13% over their expected pass rate.

Ja’Marr Chase has seen his air yards per target fall in each of his three seasons, but he was used more down the field than in 2022 during that healthy run with Burrow.

We are looking at a small sample here, and the Bengals have trended more toward shorter passing – like the rest of the league – over the last two seasons.

Still, we should expect a high-end, pass-heavy, and more explosive offense with Burrow healthy this year.
