Tim Patrick was surprisingly let go by the Broncos during final cuts, but he did not have to wait long for a new team.
Per multiple reports, Patrick is set to join the Lions' practice squad with the expectation he will join the active roster at some point in the coming weeks.
What are the Lions getting with Tim Patrick?
Out of 150 receivers with 100+ catches since 2020, Patrick ranks:
- #7 in EPA/catch (+1.28)
- #8 in EPA/target (+0.41)
- #9 in success rate/catch (88%)
- #14 lowest drop rate (3.7%)
- #21 in success rate (56%)
An INSANE 43% of his missed targets over that span were due to quarterback inaccuracy, which ranks 132nd out of 150 qualified receivers.
Just look at the QBs who threw him his 164 targets:
- 83 from Drew Lock
- 64 from Teddy Bridgewater
- 9 from Brett Rypien
- 6 from Jeff Driskel
- 2 from Kendall Hinton
Only 10% of Patrick's incomplete targets were due to receiver error, the #12 lowest rate in the NFL out of 150 qualified receivers.
Who was his OC during those years in Denver? Pat Shurmur.
In his entire career, here are the QBs that gave him his targets:
- 103 from Drew Lock
- 64 from Teddy Bridgewater
- 41 from Case Keenum
- 10 from Brandon Allen
- 9 from Brett Rypien
- 6 from Jeff Driskel
- 2 from Kendall Hinton
And here are his OCs:
- Pat Shurmur
- Rich Scangarello
- Bill Musgrave
He put up those stats with those QBs and play callers.
Now, for the first time in his career, he gets a qualified quarterback and a qualified OC in Jared Goff and Ben Johnson.
I hope he can stay healthy. He deserves it, and I'm looking forward to seeing him finally play in a high-caliber offense.
