Browns in tight end market
David Njoku is entering the final year of his contract and the Browns appear to be preparing to draft a potential replacement.
Cleveland has conducted visits with the following tight ends:
- Mason Taylor, LSU
- Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green
- Terrance Ferguson, Oregon
- Elijah Arroyo, Miami FL
All four are expected to be off the board by the end of Day 2.
Cleveland owns three picks on Day 2 (Nos. 33, 67 and 94) and there's a good chance one of those selections is spent on a tight end.
Derek Carr injury impact
Due to the recent news of Derek Carr‘s shoulder injury which could linger into fall, or even cause him to miss the season, more mock drafts are starting to link the Saints to Shedeur Sanders with the ninth overall selection.
Sanders to New Orleans is a plausible outcome — I paired them in a late March mock draft — but Carr's recent injury news should have little to no impact on that decision.
The Saints are not going to settle for the best available quarterback with the ninth overall selection just because their presumed starter is injured.
Teams are not that short-sighted, especially with a first-year head coach who isn't under any pressure to turn things around immediately.
If New Orleans likes Sanders, independent of Carr's status, he'll be a Saint. If not, he won't. Carr's health forecast will not affect that.
On Day 2, however, New Orleans might force a quarterback selection.
The Saints have visited with Jalen Milroe and Quinn Ewers, both of whom have reportedly interviewed well though the pre-draft process. New Orleans might make an effort to land one of them in the second round, knowing it will have some time to give them a tryout during Carr's absence.
If it doesn't work out, so be it. The long-term cost of missing on a second-round pick is dramatically less painful than a top-10 selection.

Vikings want some backfield speed
The Minnesota Vikings have conducted pre-draft visits with Arizona's Jacory Croskey-Merritt and SMU's Brashard Smith, two running backs who would bring some explosive ability to the backfield.
Both ball carriers are likely Day 3 picks, but it's worth mentioning the visits because it gives us some insight into the type of prospect the team is targeting.
Minnesota re-signed Aaron Jones to a two-year contract but appear to be searching for another explosive weapon in the backfield.
North Carolina's Omarion Hampton and Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson are first-round options who could fill that need for Minnesota.
Virginia Tech's Bhayshul Tuten, Kansas State's D.J. Giddens, UCF's RJ Harvey and Georgia's Trevor Etienne are a few other potential Day 2 selections with the traits Minnesota appears to be looking for this year.

Sanders Doesn't Want to Land in Cleveland or New York?
ESPN's Louis Riddick said he believes Shedeur Sanders and his family would prefer he does not go in the top three picks, saying, “There are other teams they want to go to.”
We already know with a high degree of certainty he's not going to Tennessee, so Riddick is really talking about Cleveland and New York.
So what does this mean?
We don't often hear about players not wanting to land somewhere, but we'd be foolish to believe they don't feel that way.
Prospects and their families follow the league, too, and they're well aware of Cleveland's long history of dysfunction.
They also know Brian Daboll is on the hot seat, and if he's fired, it will be a setback for whichever quarterback the Giants draft.
Unless you're from Cleveland or New York, you wouldn't want to be drafted there either, so why should Sanders?
The only thing unique about this situation is that Deion Sanders played in the league and has close contacts, such as Riddick, who can share some insight into how they're feeling.
But it's a non-issue.
The Browns and Giants will draft Sanders if they want him – they're not going to be swayed by some rumors.

Jalen Milroe Attending Draft
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has accepted an invitation to attend the NFL draft.
Typically, attendees are limited to players expected to be selected in the first round.
This begs the question: Does the league know something about Milroe we don't?
The answer is no.
This should change nothing about our expectation that Milroe will be, at best, a Day 2 selection.
Milroe was invited because he's a quarterback and the league wants quarterbacks in attendance so they can draw in college fans to the broadcast and begin marketing them to NFL fans.
Most of the quarterbacks who don't anticipate being selected in the first round turn down those invitations, but not always.
Malik Willis and Matt Corral both attended the 2022 NFL draft and then fell to the third round.
Corral never even played a down in the league and, just two years later, became a member of the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL.
So, no, an invitation to the draft does not necessarily mean NFL teams are high on the prospect.
Bucs Need a Cornerback
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles is concerned about the team's depth at cornerback and recently stated, “We don't have a lot of depth. We hope to address that at some point in the draft.”
Tampa has conducted visits with East Carolina's Shavon Revel Jr. and Ole Miss' Trey Amos, as well as a few other potential Day 2 or Day 3 selections.
Both Revel and Amos are potential first-round targets for Tampa.

Browns Tanking for Arch Manning?
This article from The Athletic's Mike Sando has sparked a debate over whether the Browns (or maybe someone else like the Giants) are tanking for Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
Let's keep this simple: the answer is no.
It is widely believed that Manning will stay in college for at least four years (through the 2026 football season).
Arch has hinted at planning to stay for four years, as both of his uncles, Peyton and Eli, did when they were in college as part of a carefully orchestrated development plan by the Manning family.
For those two young to remember, Peyton would have been a lock to be the first pick in the 1997 draft had he left after three years (Jim Druckenmiller was the first quarterback drafted that year, 26th overall) and Eli would have been drafted very early in 2003 (he would have battled Carson Palmer to be the No. 1 pick).
Both returned to school for a third year as starters.
Arch is only entering his first year as the Longhorns' starter this fall.
So, no, no one is tanking for Arch Manning.
Cardinals Want a Pass Rusher
The Cardinals have spent most of their offseason resources on the defensive side of the ball, and it does not look like they are finished.
Arizona has met with the following pass rushers either on official visits or workouts:
- Femi Oladejo, UCLA
- Nic Scourton, Texas A&M
- Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M
- Mykel Williams, Georgia
- Jalon Walker, Georgia
- James Pearce Jr, Tennessee
- Princely Unmanmielen, Ole Miss
Visits with an individual player aren't always a sign of interest (it's often to answer injury and/or off-field concerns), but intense focus on a position group is a definite indication of where the team feels it needs an upgrade.
All of those players are expected to be gone within the first 50 picks.
Arizona owns the 16th and 47th selections in the upcoming draft, and there's a good chance one of them lands with the team.
April 6, NFL Draft News & Rumors
Titans Pass on Shedeur Sanders Workout
The Titans have cancelled an upcoming workout with Shedeur Sanders, the surest sign yet that Cam Ward will be the No. 1 overall pick.
Ward has been rumored to be the Titans' preferred quarterback for a while now, but cancelling Sanders' workout is a sign they've officially made that decision.
Of course, it's possible Tennessee has settled on Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter, but if that were the case, it wouldn't make sense to cancel Sanders' workout.
What if Sanders unexpectedly fell to the second round? Tennessee would want to be prepared to decide on Sanders on Day 2.
So skipping his workout likely means Tennessee knows it won't need to consider Sanders in that scenario.
Travis Hunter to Cleveland?
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, there is “growing belief around the league” that the Browns will select Travis Hunter with the second pick.
It's just outside speculation, but this rumor makes sense for a few reasons.
The Browns have a strong analytics department with buy-in from GM Andrew Berry.
For that reason, they might be more intrigued by the added value of a two-way player than most.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam also has a Jerry Jones-like affinity for shiny things and big names.
Convincing him to draft the reigning Heisman winner and employ the first true two-way player the league has seen in a long time would probably be an easy sell.
In fact, it should shock no one if we learn Haslam is the one driving the Hunter hype train within the Browns offices.
It's also worth mentioning that there has been no shortage of rumors linking the Browns to Kirk Cousins, who is likely to be leaving Atlanta one way or another.
So, Cleveland may feel less desperate for a quarterback than its current depth chart would indicate.
Cousins played for Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota.
April 4, NFL Draft News & Rumors
Grey Zabel's Draft Stock
North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel attended the Bison Pro Day but did not run the 40 due to a groin injury.
That was the one piece of data missing from his Combine workout numbers, so it's disappointing we can't complete the picture, but it shouldn't hurt his draft stock.
Zabel posted a 9.5 relative athletic score as an offensive tackle and 9.9 as a guard.
In my latest mock draft, I paired Zabel with the Colts.
GM Chris Ballard has an affinity for older prospects (Zabel is a fifth-year senior) and heavily favors prospects with elite athleticism for their position.
Zabel checks both boxes.
Raiders QB Situation
Despite trading for Geno Smith, the Raiders have still occasionally been linked to Shedeur Sanders in mock drafts.
We can probably put that to rest now after Smith signed an extension through the 2027 season.
Smith's extension is worth $65 million guaranteed, making it unlikely Las Vegas will also add a top-10 pick to the quarterback room.
Pete Carroll will be 76 years old when Smith's contract expires, so he's probably focused on building a winner within that three-year window with Smith.
Even a Day 2 quarterback addition seems unlikely.
March 26, NFL Draft News & Rumors
Quinn Ewers' Pro Day
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers worked out at his Pro Day on Tuesday in front of a large crowd of NFL decision-makers.
Some GMs in attendance described it to Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline as “an exciting exhibition of arm talent.”
Rams GM Les Snead, Saints head coach Kellen Moore, and Jets head coach Aaron Glenn were some of the notable attendees who might be considering Ewers in the second or third round.
Since the majority of quarterback-needy teams have already signed or traded for veterans, and are now showing interest in Day 2 prospects, we should start to strongly consider the possibility that at least one of the top quarterback prospects (mostly Shedeur Sanders, but possibly also Cam Ward) experiences draft-day fall.
Titans settled on Cam Ward?
Almost all mock drafts have the Tennessee Titans selecting Cam Ward with the first overall selection, especially after Tennessee sent a large contingent to Miami's Pro Day including their in-house video production team.
That certainly sounds like the Titans tipped their hand, but I'm still 50/50 on the prediction.
Let me lay out my thought process.
The Titans sending their production team seems like an obvious tip of the pick, but in my 22 years covering the draft, I've never heard of non-front office/coaching employees knowing about a selection a full month before the draft.
The explanation for the video crew's attendance is likely that Tennessee is producing some type of in-house production on the process leading up to the No. 1 pick.
But we'll know for certain if they show up for the workouts of Abdul Carter (March 28) and Shedeur Sanders (April 4).
