The Bills and Patriots treated us to a special dose of December football Monday night with Mac Jones throwing only three passes and the Bills missing both an extra point and a 33-yard field goal in the loss.
However, the action off the field might have been even more dramatic with a season-high 11 players across the league landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Here's a team-by-team look of all the injury storylines following an action-packed Week 13:
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals had no problem dispatching the Bears on Sunday thanks to the returning Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. Murray only threw 15 passes, but did rush 10 times for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Hopkins contributed a 20-yard touchdown catch.
The good news continued in the desert on Monday when Kliff Kingsbury told reporters that Chase Edmunds is a candidate to return from the IR this week. Edmonds averaged 5.7 yards per carry prior to his injury and also contributed 20 catches in the passing game.
Atlanta Falcons
Starting cornerback Fabian Moreau suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and missed the final eight snaps of the game. However, Arthur Smith told reporters that he doesn't expect to be without his cornerback for long, if at all.
Rookie fourth-round pick Darren Hall would be Moreau's replacement if things don't progress this week. Hall has allowed 17 completions on 22 targets.
Baltimore Ravens
Cornerback Marlon Humphrey suffered a torn pectoral on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season. The former All-Pro has struggled this season, allowing a career-high yards per reception and passer rating.
Humphrey will be tough to replace, considering he's played over 200 snaps in the slot and 400 snaps on the outside. Jimmy Smith and Tavon Young could split the duties with Anthony Averett starting as well.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills didn't suffer any injuries on Monday night in their loss to the Patriots, but linebacker A.J. Klein was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list prior to kickoff.
With Klein inactive, the Bills defense struggled to contain the run, allowing 5.7 yards per attempt.
Carolina Panthers
Left tackle Cameron Erving was designated to return from the IR following the Panthers bye week. His return would represent a huge upgrade over Dennis Daley, who struggled at left guard before sliding over to left tackle.
If Erving does come back, Daley could move back to a guard spot after Trent Scott was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday.
Chicago Bears
Justin Fields is still dealing with broken ribs and his status for Week 14 remains uncertain. The rookie has missed two games since getting injured and was limited in practice throughout last week.
Andy Dalton struggled against Arizona on Sunday, tossing four interceptions in the loss to Arizona. However, the 22 points scored by the Bears is the most they've scored in a Dalton start this season.
Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow played through a dislocated finger against the Chargers and should be expected to be limited in practice this week. However, Zac Taylor doesn't expect Burrow to miss any time and he “feels good.”
If you're curious, Brandon Allen is the backup.
Defensively, linebacker Logan Wilson dislocated his shoulder on Sunday and is definitely out this week. Joe Bachie played a career-high 39 snaps in relief of Wilson against the Chargers. The second-year vet has 12 career tackles.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns enjoyed their bye in Week 13 and don't have any major injury news to report as of Monday.
Dallas Cowboys
Randy Gregory is expected to be active this week after suffering a calf injury back in Week 9. The pass rusher is second on the team in quarterback pressures despite playing just seven games.
If Gregory does return, he could pair up with Demarcus Lawrence and the Cowboys will have their starting edge rushers together for the first time all season.
Denver Broncos
Melvin Gordon is expected to be at practice sometime this week, according to Vic Fangio. The veteran running back was a non-participant in the team's practices last week and was inactive for the loss against Kansas City.
With Gordon inactive, rookie Javonte Williams received a career-high 23 carries and rushed for 102 yards while adding 76 receiving yards on six catches.
Detroit Lions
Cornerback Jerry Jacobs suffered a neck injury in the win over Minnesota, but returned to make a big play down the stretch for Detroit. Jacobs is an undrafted rookie from Arkansas, but has started every game for the Lions since Week 5.
Green Bay Packers
Both Jaire Alexander and David Bakhtiari could return as soon as this week, according to Matt Lafleur.
Bakhtiari hasn't played a snap this season while recovering from a torn ACL, but with Elgton Jenkins sidelined for the year, Bakhtiari's return couldn't come at a better time.
Both Rasul Douglas and Eric Stokes have played well in recent weeks, but adding a defender of Alexander's caliber would be a huge boost for a championship-hopeful team.
Houston Texans
Tyrod Taylor suffered torn ligaments in his non-throwing wrist and will miss time.
Davis Mills will return to the starting lineup after making six starts earlier in the season and posting a QBR of 30.1 in the six losses.
Laremy Tunsil has been on the IR due to a thumb injury, but is now considered “day-to-day.” However, it has been over a month since he was first considered “getting close” to returning and at the outset of the injury, it was believed he could play through the pain.
So, until Tunsil is officially back on the roster, get used to seeing Tytus Howard lining up at left tackle every week.
Indianapolis Colts
Ryan Kelly was absent on Sunday after he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Kelly was also on the list prior to the season as a close contact, confirming his unvaccinated status.
With the Colts heading on their bye this week, Kelly could return for their next game in Week 15. However, his replacement Danny Pinter was the Colts' highest-graded run blocker on Pro Football Focus this week.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Center Brandon Linder suffered a back injury against the Rams on Sunday and played just 26 snaps in the loss. Seven-year vet Tyler Shatley filled in and was the Jaguars highest-graded lineman on PFF this week.
Urban Meyer didn't offer any updates on Linder's condition Monday, so we will have to wait for Wednesday's injury report to get an idea if he can play against Tennessee next week.
Kansas City Chiefs
With Lucas Niang inactive for the third-straight game, Andrew Wylie got the start at right tackle again, allowing one of the two pressures given up by Kansas City on Sunday night.
As for Kyle Long, it seems like the former All-Pro is close to being ready for game action for the first time all season.
Las Vegas Raiders
Kenyan Drake will undergo ankle surgery later this week and miss the remainder of the season. Drake is the only Raider running back to average four yards per carry and his 9.7 yards per reception top the rest of the backfield as well.
Darren Waller missed his second-straight game with a knee injury, but there is optimism that he could return next week against the Chiefs. Waller has been targeted at least seven times in each of his last five games against Kansas City.
Defensively, linebackers Denzel Perryman and Nick Kwiatkoski both suffered ankle injuries against Washington. Rich Bisaccia classified both guys as “day-to-day” on Monday.
Los Angeles Chargers
Keenan Allen was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after a positive test on Monday. He ranks in the top-10 of the NFL in receiving yards and yards per touch this season.
If Allen remains asymptomatic and is vaccinated, he can return in time for this week's game against the Giants. However, third-year receiver Jalen Guyton had a career-day against the Bengals, catching four passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Los Angeles Chargers
Center Brian Allen sprained his MCL on Sunday and is considered “day-to-day.” There is still a chance he will be active against the Cardinals next week.
Backup Coleman Shelton has just 99 snaps of NFL experience under his belt. However, he has allowed just one quarterback pressure and zero sacks in 59 pass-blocking snaps.
Miami Dolphins
Patrick Laird will miss multiple weeks after spraining his MCL. The Dolphins backfield is already banged up with Phillip Lindsay and Malcolm Brown both out already.
That leaves Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed as the only healthy running backs on the roster. Miami boasts the NFL's worst rushing attack, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry.
Minnesota Vikings
Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook were non-participants in Monday's estimated practice report.
Cook is dealing with a tear in his shoulder and missed Sunday's game. Alexander Mattison stepped up and delivered with 124 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown.
Thielen injured his ankle early in the loss to Detroit and K.J. Osborn ended up taking most of the snaps opposite Justin Jefferson with Dede Westbrook working out of the slot.
Osborn caught four of his seven targets, gaining 47 yards and a touchdown. Minnesota has a date with Pittsburgh this Thursday.
New England Patriots
Damien Harris suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of Monday night's win and was later ruled out. His 64-yard touchdown was the only offensive score for the Patriots in their win over the Bills.
The more peculiar injury of the night was the one that occurred to Adrian Phillips‘s knee during a timeout in the closing minutes of the game.
We don't have an update on Phillips' injury yet, but if he misses any time, it would be a tough loss for the Patriots defense. Phillips has been one of the best coverage safeties in the NFL this season, grabbing four interceptions and not allowing a completion over 17 yards.
New Orleans Saints
Cameron Jordan was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list following a positive test on Monday. Jordan does have a shot to return in time for the Saints' Week 14 game, but it would require him to remain asymptomatic and test negative twice.
Jordan hasn't missed a game in his career, playing all 172 contests and starting 171 of them. The Saints already put Tanoh Kpassagnon on the IR and Marcus Davenport was inactive this week thanks to a shoulder injury.
Elsewhere on the roster, Deonte Harris will be suspended for the next three games as a result of a DUI arrest this summer. Harris set a new career-high in receiving yards against the Cowboys this week and leads the NFL in punt returns.
New York Giants
Daniel Jones is expected to miss another week with his neck injury. Complicating matters is the concussion suffered by Mike Glennon on Sunday.
As of now, the only healthy quarterback on the Giants roster is Jake Fromm, who was signed off the Bills practice squad last week. Fromm hasn't played a down of NFL football and could be expected to start for a team that he just joined seven days ago.
New York Jets
Corey Davis will miss the rest of the year after undergoing core muscle surgery. Davis had been in and out of the lineup due to a groin injury in recent weeks.
Rookie Elijah Moore has been a pleasant surprise for the Jets and should continue to see the majority of the targets in the passing game. Moore is averaging over 10 targets and 88 yards per game over the last three weeks.
Philadelphia Eagles
Miles Sanders aggravated his ankle injury on Sunday against the Jets and Jason Kelce did the same to his nagging knee issue.
Both players will have time to rest up as the Eagles enter their Week 14 bye. Jalen Hurts is also expected to return when the Eagles play again in Week 15.
Pittsburgh Steelers
B.J. Finney injured his back on Sunday and Joe Haeg remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive last week. The Steelers have a short week before their Thursday night game against Minnesota and Mike Tomlin didn't sound too optimistic about any of his injured guys.
If neither Finney or Haeg are active, John Leglue could start at left guard after playing 56 snaps against the Ravens. Leglue earned an 81.1 pass-blocking grade from PFF for his strong efforts in the win.
San Francisco 49ers
Emmanuel Moseley suffered a high ankle sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks. Moseley has been a huge part of the 49ers secondary, allowing a passer rating of just 79.7 when targeted and holding opposing quarterbacks to a 56.9 completion percentage.
Rookie Deommodore Lenoir could find his way back into the starting lineup after making a pair of strong starts earlier in the season. Both Lenoir and Dontae Johnson rotated in at Moseley's spot on Sunday and combined to allow six catches on six targets for 62 yards.
Fred Warner is expected to return to practice this week, however the Niners aren't as confident in Deebo Samuel returning in time for Week 14.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle's offensive line was banged up on Sunday with Brandon Shell, Damien Lewis, and Kyle Fuller all going down with injuries.
Pete Carroll told the media on Monday that Lewis has a shot at practicing with the team on Wednesday, despite the shoulder and elbow injuries. The prognosis for Shell wasn't as optimistic.
Stone Forsythe filled in for Shell against San Francisco and the rookie didn't allow any pressures in his first 14 NFL snaps.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bruce Arians expects Richard Sherman to be activated off the IR as soon as this week, but the All-Pro corner will be taking some reps at safety during practice.
Sherman was signed earlier this season when both starting cornerbacks were on the IR, but now that Sean Murphy-Bunting and Carlton Davis are healthy, there isn't much room for Sherman in the rotation.
However, safety has become an area of need with Jordan Whitehead nursing a calf injury and Mike Edwards serving a three-game suspension. Andrew Adams, who had played just 20 snaps all season, had to play 58 in the win over Atlanta.
Long snapper Zach Triner was added to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, but there's no natural replacement with former fill-in Carson Tinker currently working in Vegas.
Tennessee Titans
Julio Jones was designated to return from the IR on Monday following the Titans bye week. This is finally some good news for a team that has been snake-bitten all season.
The Titans already put A.J. Brown on the season-ending IR, so getting Jones back would be a huge boost for a passing offesne that managed just 85 net yards in their last outing.
Washington Football Team
Tight end Logan Thomas underwent an MRI on his knee and the results were better than expected. In fact, the tight end did not tear his ACL as initially anticipated and has a shot of playing again this season.
Thomas previously spent time on the IR this season due to a hamstring injury and has just 196 receiving yards in six games this season. John Bates caught three passes for 46 yards in Washington's win over Las Vegas on Sunday.
