The 2021 NFL season continues to steam-roll through the calendar as we head toward Week 5.
Here's a team-by-team breakdown of all the latest injury news following an action-packed Week 4:
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals were missing both Kelvin Beachum and Justin Murray on Sunday, but their pass protection held up well against the Rams, allowing just one sack and zero quarterback hits.
Arizona did not suffer any new injuries in their win over Los Angeles.
Atlanta Falcons
Russell Gage missed his second-straight game with an ankle injury. The fourth-year pro seemed primed for a breakout season after catching 72 passes last year, but he has just five receptions for 28 yards nearly a quarter way through the regular season.
Cordarrelle Patterson has taken a large number of targets in the passing game in recent weeks, catching 11 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns since Gage went out.
Baltimore Ravens
Tyre Phillips has been on the IR since Week 2 after suffering a knee injury in the season opener. Despite being eligible to return to the active roster this week, John Harbaugh told reporters that the guard is still “weeks” away.
Ben Powers has played well in Phillips's absence, but the Ravens offensive line is banged up with Ronnie Stanley missing the last three games and Alejandro Villanueva dealing with a knee injury of his own.
Buffalo Bills
Matt Milano injured his hamstring on Sunday, but Sean McDermott told reporters that his linebacker is just “day-to-day.” McDermott said the same about defensive backs Jordan Poyer and Taron Johnson, both of whom were inactive in Week 4.
The Bills head to Kansas City this week, so having the back end of their defense fully healthy is imperative. Buffalo allowed just 61 passing yards to Houston on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are banged up after their loss to the Cowboys. John Miller (shoulder), Shaq Thompson (foot), and Cam Erving (knee) are all expected to get an MRI at some point early this week.
As for Christian McCaffrey, Rhule said he won't know more about the star running back's status until Wednesday. The Panthers did not put McCaffrey on the IR after he injured his hamstring because they expected him to be ready before three weeks and he has only missed one game so far.
The Eagles have struggled against the run this season, allowing 360 yards on the ground in their last two games.
Chicago Bears
David Montgomery suffered a knee injury on Sunday, and while he is expected to miss some time, he shouldn't miss the rest of the season. The Bears have been committed to running the football this season, ranking 10th in rushing attempts and 11th in yards per carry.
With Montgomery down, Damien Williams should get the bulk of the carries. However, Williams suffered a thigh bruise on Sunday, so it remains to be seen what his health status could be for Sunday.
Rookie Khalil Herbert is the only other running back on the roster, he received his first three NFL carries on Sunday, gaining a total of seven yards.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals are optimistic about Joe Mixon's ankle injury and he is currently considered “day-to-day.” Mixon is second in the NFL in rushing attempts through four weeks with 83, no other Bengal has more than 9 carries. Samaje Perine would step up if Mixon misses time.
Tee Higgins is also expected to return to practice this week after missing Week 4 with a shoulder injury.
Cleveland Browns
Jedrick Wills hasn't been able to play a full game since Week 1 as he deals with a nagging ankle injury. The left tackle is awaiting the results of an MRI to determine if he needs to sit out any future games.
James Hudson got his first NFL snaps in relief of Wills on Sunday, allowing a pair of pressures on just 10 pass-blocking snaps. Blake Hance filled in for Wills the previous two weeks.
Dallas Cowboys
Amari Cooper is expected to be limited in practice this week due to rib and hamstring injuries. Despite the lighter workload during the week, Mike McCarthy expects the wide receiver to be ready to go against the Giants on Sunday.
After a monster Week 1, Cooper has struggled to stand out, catching three passes in each of the Cowboys' last three games. With Michael Gallup still on the IR, Cedrick Wilson and CeeDee Lamb are the only other wide receivers on the roster to have multiple targets.
Denver Broncos
Teddy Bridgewater suffered a concussion on Sunday and will have to clear protocol before he can return to the lineup. As of now, Drew Lock is preparing to start for the Broncos against the Steelers in Week 5.
Bridgewater has been mighty efficient since joining Denver, completing over 70 percent of his passes and throwing zero interceptions through four games. Lock led the league in interceptions last year and will have to be careful against a Steelers defense that intercepted 18 passes a year ago.
Some good news in Denver as Patrick Surtain II is expected to be fine after suffering a chest injury on Sunday. Denver is already down Ronald Darby at cornerback, but slot corner Bryce Callahan is more than capable of stepping up if Surtain misses any time.
Detroit Lions
The Lions' defense was dealt another serious blow when Romeo Okwara was lost for the season to a torn Achilles. Okwara was among the highest-graded pass rushers on Pro Football Focus this year and had 10 sacks in 2020.
Trey Flowers (shoulder) has a shot at returning this week after missing two games. His return could help mitigate the loss of Okwara.
Offensively, the Lions are still awaiting the return of Taylor Decker, who hasn't played this season due to a finger injury. However, he isn't expected to return against Minnesota this week.
Green Bay Packers
Jaire Alexander left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. It is expected to be an AC joint issue, but Matt LaFleur told reporters he won't know more until Wednesday. However, the coach didn't rule out the possibility of surgery for his star cornerback.
With Kevin King also currently sidelined, the Packers could head into Cincinnati with Isaac Yiadom and Eric Stokes as their starting outside cornerbacks.
Stokes did have an interception on Sunday, but was targeted 15 times by the Steelers, allowing 10 completions for 82 yards. Yiadom has allowed completions on both of his targets this season.
Houston Texans
Despite the brutal 40-0 loss in Buffalo, the Texans were able to stay relatively healthy against the Bills with just Jonathan Greenard (chest) and Rex Burkhead (hip) suffering minor injuries.
Neither player has played over 60 snaps this season, so even a short absence shouldn't affect the team's game-planning too much. Starting linebacker Zach Cunningham could return from the reserve/COVID-19 list this week after being added due to close contact late last week.
Indianapolis Colts
It was a good Sunday for the Colts, who picked up their first win of the season over Miami and didn't suffer any new injuries in the process.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Wide receiver D.J. Chark was placed on the IR on Monday. Chark suffered a broken ankle on Thursday night against the Panthers and “it's going to be awhile” before he returns, according to Urban Meyer.
Chark has struggled this season catching just 12 passes and earning just 10 targets since getting targeted a dozen times in the season opener. Marvin Jones Jr. and Laviska Shenault are the winless Jaguars top two receivers.
Tavon Austin did return from the IR on Thursday night and could factor more into the offense with Chark out.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs stayed healthy in their win over the Eagles on Sunday. Things could get even better in Kansas City as linebacker Willie Gay could return from the IR as early as this week.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders lost three cornerbacks on Monday night. Damon Arnette (groin), Nate Hobbs (head), and Trayvon Mullen Jr. (foot) were all absent at the end of the game.
That left Casey Hayward and Amik Robertson as the cornerbacks in the final minutes of the game. We will have to wait for an update on these guys.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers didn't suffer any new injuries on Monday, but Chris Harris Jr. was inactive due to a shoulder injury. That allowed Asante Samuel Jr. to make his third-straight start. The rookie recorded one pass breakup.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will play the Seahawks on Thursday night and should be pretty healthy when kickoff rolls around. Darrell Henderson Jr., Tyler Higbee, Taylor Rapp, and Johnny Mundy were all listed on Monday's injury report, but Sean McVay expects every one of them to be available on Thursday.
Miami Dolphins
Will Fuller will be out this week after breaking his finger on Sunday. Fuller missed Week 1 due to a suspension, but has caught just four passes for 26 yards since returning.
With Jaylen Waddle and DeVante Parker firmly entrenched as starters, expect Albert Wilson to be the third man in the wide receiving corps this week.
Minnesota Vikings
Cameron Dantzler was added to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. However, the cornerback is fully vaccinated and doesn't expect to miss much time.
Dantzler got a lot of time opposite Patrick Peterson on Sunday with Bashaud Breeland sidelined with a non-COVID illness. He allowed one completion on four targets for 12 yards and recorded a pass breakup.
New England Patriots
Defensive lineman Henry Anderson will miss the rest of the season after tearing his pectoral on Sunday. Anderson played just 35 snaps for the Patriots in a reserve role.
Offensively, Trent Brown might finally be on his way back after missing three games with a calf injury. Patriots right tackles have allowed five sacks with him sidelined.
New Orleans Saints
Speaking of offensive line play, the Saints played without two starters on Sunday, but limited the Giants pass rush to just seven quarterback pressures and zero hits or sacks.
James Hurst was the star of the show, allowing one pressure while filling in for Terron Armstead at left tackle. Hurst has allowed just two pressures all season and is PFF's seventh-highest graded pass-blocking tackle this season.
New York Giants
Jabrill Peppers suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday, but the prognosis seems positive. Julian Love could see more snaps against the Cowboys if Peppers is limited.
Elsewhere, the Giants were without Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard, but Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney stepped up in a big way, combining for 12 catches and 194 yards on 16 targets. Even John Ross contributed in his 2021 debut, catching a 51-yard touchdown.
New York Jets
Wide receiver Elijah Mitchell should be available in Week 5 for the Jets after missing last week with a concussion. Jamison Crowder stepped up in his first action of 2021, catching seven passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.
The news isn't as positive for safety Marcus Maye, who is facing charges for a DUI arrest back in February. Maye, also dealing with an ankle injury, was replaced in the starting lineup by Jarrod Wilson against the Titans.
Philadelphia Eagles
Lane Johnson was perhaps the most surprising inactive on Sunday, missing the Chiefs game due to personal reasons. The right tackle wasn't listed on any injury reports leading up to the game and the team hasn't released any other information regarding his absence.
Jack Driscoll started at right tackle for the Eagles against Kansas City, allowing four hurries and a quarterback hit. Driscoll was expected to start at right guard on Sunday with Landon Dickerson shifting over to left guard for Isaac Seumalo.
Instead, it was internet sensation Nate Herbig starting at right guard for an offensive line missing four of its opening week starters. Herbig allowed three pressures and a QB hit.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers lost a pair of veterans to injuries on Sunday. Cameron Sutton suffered a groin injury and Kevin Dotson went down with a hip flexor. Mike Tomlin is expected to give more of an update on the duo later in the week.
Five-year veteran B.J. Finney filled in for Dotson and James Pierre took Sutton's spot on the defense against the Packers. Pierre was targeted three times by Aaron Rodgers, allowing one completion for 11 yards.
San Francisco 49ers
Some good news and bad news in San Francisco. Kyle Shanahan thinks Jimmy Garoppolo has a shot at playing next week, despite the quarterback's pessimism on Sunday. Garoppolo told reporters after the game he expected to miss a couple of weeks, which could be possible. We will know more on Wednesday.
Left tackle Trent Williams suffered a shoulder injury and is considered “day-to-day.” Jaylon Moore would be the backup option if Williams misses time, but that would be a huge loss for the 49ers. Williams is PFF's highest-graded tackle this season.
Kicker Robbie Gould is also expected to miss 3-5 weeks with a groin strain. We don't know who will replace him yet.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle has to travel to Los Angeles to play the Rams on Thursday Night Football. As a result, we got their first injury report of the week on Monday.
DK Metcalf was limited with a foot injury, but perhaps more worrisome is Carlos Dunlap sitting out with a toe injury. Darrell Taylor also missed practice with an ankle injury, leaving Seattle very short-handed on their defensive front.
Benson Mayowa is expected to return to practice this week, so that could mitigate some of the losses, but the Seahawks will need to find a way to pressure Matthew Stafford. He is completing just 50-percent of his passes when under pressure.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers secondary was dealt another blow on Sunday when Antoine Winfield Jr. suffered a concussion. Bruce Arians isn't very optimistic that the safety will clear concussion protocol in time for Week 5.
Carlton Davis will miss some time and Jamel Dean has a chance at practicing this week. As for Winfield's replacement, Mike Edwards is expected to be the next guy up. Edwards had two interceptions in the Bucs' Week 2 win over Atlanta.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans passing offense struggled on Sunday with A.J. Brown and Julio Jones both inactive. Ryan Tannehill completed just one pass that traveled further than 15 yards from the line of scrimmage.
Mike Vrabel wasn't confident the duo would return for Week 5, meaning Chester Rodgers and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine will get the bulk of the snaps at receiver again.
Elsewhere, left guard Roger Saffold suffered a concussion on Sunday. He will be replaced by Aaron Brewer if he can't progress through protocol this week. Brewer has just one career start under his belt.
Washington Football Team
Washington lost Jon Bostic for the season to a pectoral injury he sustained on Sunday. The eight-year veteran hasn't missed a game since 2017, but has only played 59% of the Football Team's snaps this season.
Bostic's injury could open up more snaps for 2021 first-round pick Jamin Davis. The Kentucky product has 13 tackles through his first four career games.
Washington will also miss Brandon Scherff (knee) and Logan Thomas (hamstring) after both guys were injured on Sunday. Ricky Seals-Jones should start at tight end for Thomas and Scherff will be replaced by Wes Schweitzer, who played over 1000 snaps at guard for Washington in 2020.
