Every NFL offseason, Warren Sharp releases his Football Preview Book, which uses expert analysis to break down all 32 teams through in-depth team chapters that are both data driven and actionable.
One of the most popular sections from each team chapter is the Sharp Football team's write-up on why to bet the Over or Under for a given team.
Panthers Over/Under Wins, 2023:
The Panthers are predicted to win 7.5 games in 2023, based on win totals from Vegas Odds.
Why You Should Bet the Over: Panthers Win Total in 2023
#1 Reason to Bet the Over:
The Panthers have the fourth-easiest schedule the third-largest improvement from last season.
Despite the quarterback carousel, the Panthers managed to win four games by a double-digit margin in 2022.
With a favorable schedule that does not feature a game against any top-five team in Super Bowl odds and five games against the bottom-five teams, the Panthers could have success.
#2 Reason to Bet Over:
The Panthers hired veteran coach Frank Reich to bring stability to a team that has struggled over recent seasons.
Carolina has one of the largest coaching staffs in the league, and Reich hired 19 coaches as the owner and organization have become impatient with the team's lack of success.
It is evident that ownership is willing to do whatever it takes to turn the franchise in the right direction.
#3 Reason to Bet Over:
The passing attack finished with a 39.7% success rate on dropbacks, the second-worst in the league.
After facing an above-average difficulty of pass defenses in 2022, the Panthers are projected to have one of the top-five easiest pass defense schedules.
The passing offense is likely to improve as all three 2022 quarterbacks finished the season above an 11% inaccuracy rate. Bryce Young will have a good chance to better that as a rookie.

Why You Should Bet the Under: Panthers Win Total in 2023
#1 Reason to Bet the Under:
Fumble and field goal luck is due for regression for the Panthers in 2023.
Last season, Carolina finished second with more than 4 field goals made over expectation, and their opponents missed 3.4 field goals over expectation.
The Panthers also finished with the highest fumble luck over expected. They logged 4.8 fumble recoveries over expectation, and the defense recovered 4.3 fumbles over expectation.
#2 Reason to Bet the Under:
The offensive line finished in the top half of the league in both ESPN’s pass block and run block win rate in 2022.
The offensive line remained healthy for much of the season.
The Panthers only used six offensive line starters for the entire season, and the most used unit played 84% of the snaps, the third-highest offensive line continuity in the league.
Depth on the offensive line could be an issue if injury regression hits the offensive line.
#3 Reason to Bet the Under:
Frank Reich has won three games in the first two weeks of the season in his five years as a head coach.
Another slow start is possible. The Panthers face the ninth-most difficult opening six-week schedule before their bye.
They do not face a single opponent projected for fewer than eight wins in that run.
