Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears Week 1 Betting Preview:
While the Packers have won and covered 8 straight vs. the Bears, it is noteworthy that last year they didn’t face scrambling Justin Fields at 100%.
The Bears didn’t fully embrace Fields' scrambling ability until Week 6 vs. the Commanders.
Prior to that, in five games played, he had over eight rush attempts only one time and topped 52 rushing yards zero times.
One such game was Week 2 vs. the Packers.
But from Week 6 through Week 11, in 6 games played, Fields had 12+ rush attempts in five of six games and hit 60+ rush yards in all six.
He exceeded 80 rushing yards in five of six games.
Then he was hurt, and his first game back was vs. the Packers, where he wasn’t 100% with a shoulder injury.
He ran just 6 times in the game (still gained 71 yards).
In that game, the Bears led 19-10 in the 4th quarter before surrendering 18 unanswered points and losing 28-19.
While Fields was not a willing runner, he did complete 80% of his pass attempts and averaged 10.2 YPA despite a terrible receiving corps.
It remains to be seen how much Fields will run to start the season given the addition of receiving weapons such as D.J. Moore and rookie offensive lineman Darnell Wright.
What we know even less about is QB Jordan Love and the status of his Packers receivers.
