  • Patrick Mahomes is 12-1 (6-0 at home) as a starting quarterback against the Broncos.
  • The Chiefs have a league-high 5 wins when the opponent scores first.
  • Kansas City games average 206.3 combined rushing yards per game, 31st in the league.
  • 16.3% of Denver's offensive plays have gained 10 or more yards, the lowest rate in the league.
  • The Chiefs are at 17.5%, 26th in the league.
  • Kansas City has converted 14.4% more third downs than their opponents, the best differential in the league.
  • The Chiefs allow 4.8 yards per play on first down, second in the league.
  • Denver is the only team in the league without a touchdown scored from outside of the red zone.

Trust = spike production for that player

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes: Mahomes had his best game of the season for fantasy on Monday night.

Closing as the QB3 (24.5 points), Mahomes attempted a season-high 44 passes, completing a season-high 77.3%.

Although the 6.6 yards per pass attempt was still middling, that volume pushed him to 291 yards passing, and he threw 3 touchdowns.

This was the first spike week for Mahomes this season.

He took advantage of an identifiable matchup we had circled last week. Still, the emergence of DeAndre Hopkins adds a viable target that this offense has been missing since losing Rashee Rice early in the season.

Before losing Rice, Mahomes had thrown multiple touchdowns in two of the first three games.

After losing Rice, he threw 1 touchdown pass over the next three games before throwing multiple scores the past two weeks since adding Hopkins.

I am still handling him as a higher-end QB2 this week, but the addition of Hopkins does give Mahomes more upside when attacking soft matchups.

This is not as much of a slam-dunk spot as Monday night, but we are still looking for further proof as to where Denver lies on the spectrum of avoidance for fantasy.

Denver could not slow down Lamar Jackson last week in their first test since Baker Mayfield early this season.

There is no shame in that regard since Baltimore has sliced through defenses, but Denver has now allowed multiple passing touchdowns in each of its past two games after allowing one or fewer in its opening seven games.

Mahomes posted 17.3 points and 5.6 points in two matchups against Denver last season when they were objectively a worse defense.

Bo Nix: It wasn’t pretty from a passing standpoint, but Nix still found his way to a decent fantasy line on Sunday.

Nix was 19-of-33 (57.6%) for 223 yards (6.8 Y/A) and an interception through the air.

He missed several big plays, posting a 21.2% inaccurate throw rate, 30th in the league in Week 9.

For the season, Nix has a 14.3% inaccurate throw rate, which is 32nd out of 35 qualifying quarterbacks.

But Nix still found his way to 17.7 fantasy points.

He added 36 rushing yards (he did have a rushing touchdown called back) and caught a 2-yard touchdown on Denver’s version of the Philly Special.

Nix is fifth among quarterbacks in rushing yards (295).

It is not always sexy, but Nix has been a mid-range QB2 or better in six of his past seven starts.

This is another spot where I would want to use him as a QB2 and take whatever spike production comes through his legs or weird plays.

Denver has another minuscule team total as a road underdog.

The Chiefs allow 6.7 yards per pass attempt (10th), but they have allowed 24.3 rushing yards per game to passers (22nd), allowing Brock Purdy (27 yards and 2 touchdowns) and Baker Mayfield (20 yards) to tack on yardage on the ground over their past three games.
