Quarterback
Derek Carr: Carr closing this past week as QB6 (20.5 points) after failing the week prior against Carolina (13.4 points) was a true twist of the knife from the fantasy deities.
Sunday was the first time that Carr was higher than QB20 in a week since Week 2.
After throwing for 6.5 yards per pass attempt over his previous four games, Carr averaged 10.8 Y/A on Sunday.
He was 5-of-10 for 159 yards and a touchdown on throws 10 or more yards downfield, with a massive drop on another potential 55-yard touchdown by Alvin Kamara.
Carr was 7-of-9 for 169 yards (18.8 Y/A) with a touchdown using play action, something that has remained steady this season.
Using play action this year, Carr is averaging 10.6 Y/A (3rd in the league).
Without play action, that rate is 7.2 Y/A, which is 12th.
While Carr’s output on Sunday was positive for gamers forced to stick with him as a QB2 in 2QB formats, that is still where he resides for this week.
Cleveland will give up some splash plays if the Saints can connect on them again.
The Browns are 2nd in the NFL in completion rate allowed (59.8%), but they are 31st in the league in yards allowed per completion (12.8 yards).
The Browns have allowed 5 touchdown passes on throws 20 or more yards downfield, 26th in the league.
Jameis Winston: We have had the full Winston experience in his two starts with the Browns.
After a QB8 (23.6 points) scoring week in his first start against the Ravens, Winston was the QB26 (10.1 points) in his second start against the Chargers.
Over those two weeks, Winston has led all quarterbacks with 6 turnover-worthy throws, with 3 being intercepted.
The Browns have thrown the rock with Winston in the game if you are throwing Winston out there as a boom-or-bust QB2.
Winston has attempted 41 and 46 passes in his two starts.
This could be a spot where the Browns find more success running the ball than in recent weeks, so keep that in mind.
But as road underdogs, Winston still could be pressed to throw often.
For all of their issues, the Saints still sit 5th in the league in passing points allowed per attempt (0.325) and have only allowed two QB1 scoring weeks this season.
They have allowed 7.5 yards per pass attempt (25th) but have prevented passing scores, allowing a 2.3% touchdown rate (3rd) in part because their rushing defense has been so lousy.
