Quarterback
Gardner Minshew: A week after living on big plays and rushing scores for a QB3 (27.1 points) showing against one of the league’s best defenses, Minshew was back to reality this past weekend against New Orleans.
Minshew ended the week with a respectable QB16 (14.8 points) scoring week, completing 56.1% of his passes for 213 yards (5.2 Y/A) with two touchdowns and an interception.
He threw the ball 41 times, giving Minshew games of 44, 55, 23, and 41 passes over his four starts.
This offense is not going to get cheated in terms of play volume very often. The Colts are fifth in the league in plays per game while their opponents are running the most plays in the league.
That is what makes Minshew a volume-based QB2, but we are going to need some push here from Carolina.
Carolina has allowed just two quarterbacks to finish higher than QB17 this season because they have been getting flooded by opponents on the ground.
That is twofold.
They are bad at stopping the run and have consistently been in poor game scripts where their opponents do not throw.
Carolina is facing 27.7 pass attempts per game, the second-fewest in the league.
On a per-throw basis, however, they are not a unit to be scared of. Carolina is 26th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.459).
