Quarterback

Sam Howell: It was not quite how we planned out last week for Howell to deliver against the Bears, but he ended up getting there in the end.

Needing 51 pass attempts and a jailbreak game script, Howell threw for 388 yards and a pair of touchdowns last Thursday Night, tacking on 19 rushing yards.

Howell ended the week as QB7 (25.4 points). He now has been the QB13 or higher in four of his five games this season.

He has taken advantage of a strong opening schedule, but Atlanta is arguably the second-best pass defense he has faced to this point of the year outside of Buffalo.

Atlanta is not getting pressure (26th in the league) or getting sacks (dead last in sack rate), but that was also true a week ago against the Bears, who pressured Howell on 38.3% of his dropbacks (10th in Week 5) and sacked him five times.

The Falcons are allowing 6.2 yards per pass attempt (sixth) and 10.1 yards per completed pass (11th) as they have been one of the better defenses downfield. Opposing passers have completed just 42.3% of their passes 10 or more yards downfield against Atlanta (seventh).

The Falcons have not allowed a QB1 scoring week yet on the season, facing Jared Goff (QB14), Trevor Lawrence (QB15), and C.J. Stroud (QB17) the past three weeks.

Howell is a mid-2QB option in Week 6.
