Week 5 DFS Picks: Core Players and Best Plays

Every Sunday in the weekly fantasy chats, I get asked about my favorite plays of the week or who is in my player pool that weekend for DFS.

This article series covers exactly that.

Every week, I will go through the players I am targeting to play in DFS for all games, tournaments, and game stacks.

The idea is that this will paint a clearer picture of framing lineups.

Week 5 DFS Content:

Week 18 DFS Picks
Core Plays
Tournament Picks
Best Game Stacks

Our core players are the players we will have the most exposure to at their positions.

They can be played in cash games and tournaments.

I will analyze the player selections and game writeups, but for a detailed breakdown of the players and games, check out the Week 5 Worksheet.

Quarterback

Lamar Jackson ($7,500 DraftKings/$8,800 FanDuel)

Jackson has been a top-10 scorer in all four games this season, the only quarterback to make that claim to open the season.

Before we even consider Jackson’s elite rushing ability, this is also a great passing matchup for the Ravens when they throw the ball.

The Bengals are 28th in the league in pressure rate (28.4%).

The Bengals are 20th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.427) with a 5.4% touchdown rate (26th) allowed to passers.

Jackson was a top-10 scorer in both matchups against the Bengals last season.

Jordan Love ($6,500/$8,200)

Love has only completed 50% and 59.3% of his passes with 4 interceptions in his two appearances this season, but multiple touchdowns and splash plays have kept him as a QB1 in both outings.

This week, things are much easier on the surface.

The Rams have been a team we have circled every week to open the year.

Los Angeles is dead last in passing points allowed per attempt (0.660).

They allow a league-high 9.1 yards per pass attempt and a 7.8% touchdown rate (31st).

Joe Flacco ($5,500/$6,800)

Flacco is the top pay-down option if he draws the start on Sunday.

The Jaguars are 31st in passing points allowed per game (18.4) and 29th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.517).

They have faced a good rogue’s gallery in C.J. Stroud, Josh Allen, and Tua Tagovailoa, but they also allowed a QB1 scoring week to Deshaun Watson.

The Colts will also be without Jonathan Taylor, which pushes more emphasis on winning the game as a road underdog through the air with Flacco.

It was a different system, but Flacco threw for 311 yards and 3 touchdowns against Jacksonville last season with the Browns.
