Finding The Right DFS Stack: Week 9

Each week, we'll use the free tools at Sharp Football Stats to identify the best DFS stacks

It’s a short main slate for Week 9. We have four teams on bye, an early London game, and the usual primetime slate. That leaves just 10 games for us on Sunday. Overall, it isn’t the most appealing slate from the perspective of individual plays. I do think, though, that there are some stacks we can exploit for tournaments that could pay off nicely.

Game Stack

Exposure to the Detroit-Oakland game seems important this week. At the time of this writing, it’s tied for the second-highest over/under on the slate with a 50.5 total. The spread is only two points so both teams are in the top six of implied team totals, as well.

Matthew Stafford ($6,800) is the third-most expensive quarterback on the slate. He’s had 24+ DK Points in three of his last four games and faces an Oakland squad that has given up 27 and 46 DK Point performances in their last two games. Stafford is somewhat quietly putting together one of the best seasons of his career. He has at least a 90 passer rating to every zone of the field.

Kenny Golladay ($7,700) certainly deserves some consideration this week. Golladay and Marvin Jones ($6,000) are in a tier of their own among pass-catching options for Detroit. Jones is really buoyed by a couple of spike weeks with his targets but he’s seen at least five in every game since Week 2. Jones seems a bit thin at his price and is certainly not cash viable, but we’ve seen his upside in GPPs already this year. He’s seen at least one red zone target in each of the last five games.

Whether you single or double-stack the Lions side, you can run it back with Darren Waller ($6,300) and/or Tyrell Williams ($5,900). Waller has seen at least 7 targets in all but one game this season. He’s had a couple of 30+ DK Point spike weeks. Williams, when active, has been excellent. He’s had 30 targets in five active games so far this year. Derek Carr ($5,500) has been using both of these receivers all over the field.

Team Stack

I’m writing this on Halloween, so it’s only right to throw in a stack that will scare you when contests lock on Sunday. It’s a week where we want to figure out ways to get Christian McCaffrey ($10,000) and/or Dalvin Cook ($9,500) in our lineups and the Miami Dolphins are here to help.

We like tight target concentrations in DFS. Ryan Fitzpatrick ($4,800) is providing that for us down in Miami, for better or worse. He’s had 103 pass attempts so far this year and 43 of them have gone to either DeVante Parker ($4,400) or Preston Williams ($4,200).

Parker has scored at least 11 DK Points in four straight games now but he’s seen an uptick in usage over the past two weeks. During that stretch, he’s averaging nine targets per game. Williams has held steady with somewhere between six and eight targets in each of his past four starts. No one is mistaking these Dolphins for the greatest show on turf, but a stack that costs around $9,000 allows for so much flexibility in a GPP that it’s worth a flier in a large field contest.

Unconventional Stack

There are only certain situations where I like to do this, but I think stacking Aaron Rodgers ($6,900) with Aaron Jones ($7,000) makes some sense this week. Especially if Davante Adams ($7,100) is unable to go again this week.

With Aaron Rodgers, you get a QB who is scoring points at ease over the past few weeks. He’s averaging over 35 DK Points over the last two games. With a rotating cast of characters at receiver for the Packers, Jones has carried the receiving load in Adams’s absence.

Jones has also shown that he can be useful on the ground. He’s been excellent on all three downs.

With this stack, you capture almost all of the TD equity on the Packers side. If the Packers go over their 25 implied points and it isn’t Jamaal Williams ($5,900) finding the end zone, then you have a high-powered, low-owned stack to build around with Rodgers and Jones.
