Quarterback
Matthew Stafford: Stafford had his first egg of the season last week, passing for a season-low 6.1 yards per pass attempt on Sunday night against the Titans. Stafford was pressured on a season-high 32.7% of his dropbacks, in which he was 3-of-13 passing for 2.2 yards per pass attempt. He was sacked five times after being sacked seven times through the opening eight games. To add injury to insult, Stafford also suffered a low ankle sprain, something he is expected to play through.
The 49ers have been a subpar defense at generating pressure (21st) and are 21st in sacks (18), but they are ninth in sack rate per drop back (6.8%) to test out Stafford’s ability to move in the pocket on that ankle. Defending the pass, San Francisco has struggled, ranking 23rd in passing points allowed per attempt (0.48), 28th in completion rate allowed (68.7%), and 22nd in touchdown rate allowed (4.9%).
Go back to Stafford as a QB1 option against this unit but keep an eye on his ankle issue throughout the week.
