Quarterback

C.J. Stroud: After a three-game string on back-end QB1 scoring weeks., Stroud ended Week 5 as the QB17 (14.2 points).

He completed 20-of-35 passes (57.1%) for 249 yards (7.1 Y/A) and a touchdown.

He still has not thrown an interception and extended his NFL record of pass attempts without throwing an interception to open a player’s career to 186 pass attempts.

Stroud has completed fewer than 60% of his passes in the past two weeks. This past week was disappointing in that regard since he was pressured on a league-low 14.3% of his dropbacks.

Like most young (and experienced) passers, Stroud has carried drastic splits when pressured to open the season.

When Stroud has been kept clean, he is 30th in completion rate (66.4%) but is third in yards per pass attempt (9.2 Y/A) with seven touchdowns and a 113.2 rating (fifth).

When pressured, Stroud has completed 48.1% of his passes (20th) but is 28th in yards per pass attempt (4.3 Y/A) without a touchdown pass and a 60.3 rating (21st).

That said, Atlanta has been a solid pass defense overall, so we will continue to take things in stride with Stroud as a floor-based QB2.

He runs into another potentially tough spot here.

The Saints have played one of the easiest schedules of opposing quarterbacks so far this season, but they also have done their part in mushing those passers, something a good defense should do.

New Orleans is second in the NFL in allowing a 57.5% completion rate, while they have allowed 5.7 yards per pass attempt (fourth), and 9.9 passing points per game (sixth).

Baker Mayfield did throw three passing touchdowns against this defense to keep the lights on.
